Heya! 🧯
An unpopular opinion: I believe brands should take a stance on social issues.
Brands sell benefits, not products. People don’t buy light bulbs; they buy reading lights. People don’t buy cookbooks; they buy dinner parties. The greatest benefit a brand can give to its customers today is to show up publicly.
The hard part is doing it correctly.
Doing it correctly:
Match Group: Dating app parent of Hinge, OkCupid, and Tinder wasted no time launching a support fund for Texas employees who are forced to seek abortions as a result of SB 8.
OkCupid launched a ‘Pro-Choice’ badge that allows users to proudly support women’s rights. 88% of users have added this to their profiles.
GoDaddy: Canceled the Texas Right to Life site set up to collect anonymous tips to prosecute people violating the new abortion ban.
Lift & Uber: Will pay drivers' legal fees if they're sued under Texas abortion law, because now private citizens can sue anyone involved in an abortion, including drivers.
SalesForce: Offers to move employees and their families if they no longer want to live in Texas.
Portland, Oregon: Votes to ban trade with Texas – that’s some BDE!
60 companies have signed an open letter with the organization Don’t Ban Equality to dissuade other states from copying Texas’ abortion restrictions. Has your company signed it?
